The book covers virtually every aspect of participating on the Board of Directors of a Condominium Association. Condo associations in Florida are horrible. They're badly run, money flows without proper checks and balances, and no one seems to know the law. Not only that, when you call the State to get information the one thing they tell you is they don't do any enforcement. If you have a problem with the association or the CAM it's on YOU to file a lawsuit. SO . . .it's worth finding out how these organizations out to run. Here's the answer to all the questions that pop up during the operation of the Association and it's relationship to the CAM.

New member to a condo board and this book sure helps navigate the legislative minefield of FL condo laws. Certainly makes communication with other board members easy. Just refer to a section and complicated points are easily communicated. Written in plain english. Sure doesn't replace the advice of an attorney but it sure reduces the time needed; therefore, legal billing.

Clearly defines the State of Florida Condominium Law and puts it into words everyone can understand, giving reference to the Law by section and paragraph, making it easy to cross reference one to the other. If you are on a condo board in Florida or own a condo in Florida this book makes it easy to find the appropriate section of law and helps to clarify the purpose and reason for that statute you might be interested in.

This is a great learning tool for anyone who lives in a condominium in Florida. Know your rights and your obligations! This explains the law in simple to understand terms and should be required reading for anyone who serves on a condo board of directors. Mr. Dunbar also writes a similar book for homeowner associations. I call this book my condo Bible! Not expensive and worth every penny.

Wow, this book is chock full of important (perhaps boring...LOL!) information regarding Florida's Statutes concerning condominium management. I would say it's a MUST-HAVE for Condo Board members. It's easily used as a quick-reference book.

This is a necessary reference book for any Florida condominium board member or committee chairperson. Dunbar translates the F.S. 718 and relevant administrative rules into lay-understandable language. He includes an index, footnotes to the statutes, and sample documents. I'm on my third biannual copy.

Great guide for board members and condo owners. It explains in clear detail the duties and responsibilities of all concerned in condo living.

This book is a must for anyone who owns a condominium in Florida. It does not matter if you are on the board or not, this book explains the ins and outs of ownership and indeed, all of condo life.

Review

"The perfect parable for our time."―Jane Leavy, The Wall Street Journal"A magnificent and significant book about soccer in the United States...at once a stark look at the lives of the Somali refugees and a serious study of why soccer matters as a link between disparate cultures and peoples....Some of the vignettes of life for these refugees are as unforgettable as any heart-stopping game."―The Globe & Mail"Amy Bass tells a story that encompasses many of the things people love about sports, but also epitomizes many of the reasons sports matter."―Bob Costas"In this noisy era of glib hot-takes and childish finger-pointing, it's too easy to forget that the national character--hardworking, immigrant-fueled, optimistic--was built from the bottom up. Let Amy Bass remind you. Let her take you to our frosty upper righthand corner, to Lewiston, Maine, where quiet heroes like Mike McGraw, Abdi H. and the magical Blue Devils show again just how it's done. This is not just a great story, deftly reported and unflinchingly told. It's not just a story of one obscure high school season. It's the American story, just when you feared that it might be fading fast, renewed."―S.L. Price, Sports Illustrated Senior Writer and author of Playing Through The Whistle: Steel, Football and an American Town"A lively, informative, and entertaining...underdog story that skillfully blends elements of human compassion, passion for a sport, determination, and endurance with overtones of societal pressure and racism. It's an exhilarating narrative that shows how perseverance and the ability to disregard the narrow-mindedness of xenophobia can lead to victory....An edifying and adrenaline-charged tale."―Kirkus Reviews (starred review)"At a time when America seems consumed by divisiveness and hate, along comes One Goal, a beautiful and important reminder that humanity's strength is its togetherness. Yes, on the surface this is a soccer book. But Amy Bass' work is so much more. It's about overcoming odds, about embracing differences, about the triumph of will and spirit. A true gem of a book."―Jeff Pearlman, New York Times bestselling author of The Bad Guys Won and Gunslinger"A story that is not only relevant to our national discourse, but essential. This is a book about the big 'isms,' but it is most of all a book about human beings, compellingly and movingly rendered."―Jeremy Schaap, New York Times bestselling author of Cinderella Man"A touching work showing how different groups can come together through sports"―Library Journal, Best Books of the Year"In this gripping account of Lewiston's journey to its first-ever high-school soccer state championship, history professor Bass vividly tells the stories of the Somalis and Lewiston, exploring the resistance and racism the refugees faced in town and on the field....a heartening example of sport's ability to bring people together...Engrossing and informative."―Booklist"One Goal has made me feel optimistic about the country I live in. The vibrant, colorful and courageous characters will make you smile. The coach of the Blue Devils, Mike McGraw, is the kind of man you wish your own kids could learn from- and he teaches a lot more than soccer. One Goal is about so much more than sports. It illustrates how powerful and transcendent teamwork and community can be."―Mary Carillo, analyst, NBC Sports

It has been suggested that if all I say is "I didn't want to put it down" I've said enough about this book. I beg to differ on that matter. While it is true that I would have greatly enjoyed reading this book in one lengthy sitting, there is much more to it than that. Amy Bass has spun a tale, or rather shared a story (since it's factual reporting, not fiction) which is heart-warming, and compelling, and inspiring, and informative, and educational with such grace and skill that it most certainly deserved all the accolades I've read in other places. First, and foremost, it's an inspirational sports story, the story of a comeback, a team that takes disappointment and turns it into joy. Beyond that though it is also the story of the American dream, of immigrants and a community and how they found some measure of common ground around that inspirational sports story. I was immediately drawn in to the story of coach Walsh and his team and how they navigated the challenges before them, and the community and how they rallied around the team, and battled narrow-mindedness and xenophobia because the game of soccer gave them common ground from which to build relationships. I'm sure Lewiston is not Utopia, I'm sure the immigrants to that community still face discrimination, but I'm also sure that because of the efforts, inspired by soccer, of those in the community who did not surrender to the forces of negativity around them. This is a story deeply rooted in our times that will be an important lesson for future generations.

I think the most important message in this book is the fact different groups of people can overcome their differences if culture, religion, and backgrounds to become good friends and neighbors. Once again, a coach is able to draw a divided community together with the high school's soccer team. The Somali community members and soccer team members went to great lengths to end up in Lewiston, Maine. Along their journey, they faced many discriminatory, prejudicial, and racist behavior, actions, and speech from the "locals" who seemed to forget their families, at one time, weren't local at all. Given what's happening in this country right now with the unbridled approval of discrimination and prejudice by the federal government, this book is a good reminder of what this country should be about, and, not to give up hope it might one day return to that path.

What a compelling and interesting read! You don’t have to be a soccer fan to enjoy it, although you can learn a lot about the sport, like how fantastic a flip-throw is. A fascinating account of how, through soccer, the Somali refugee community transformed Lewiston, Maine. Highly recommend.

Oh my! Amy Bass scores with ONE GOAL. If you like an inspirational sports story, fact or fiction, (insert ROCKY or 1980 Lake Placid USA hockey) you will LOVE this book. But wait, if you are not a sports fan, or a soccer one for that matter, this story goes much further. This is a feel good story of accepting immigrants into our communities. These kids brought a community together and showed how our world is a small place, if you open you arms and hearts to others. Buy it, read it and buy more for your family and friends. Lastly, a great read for ALL ages. Teachers and parents can make it a read-aloud, middle schoolers and high schoolers will devour it. Enjoy!

Thanks, Amy Bass! You made me care A LOT about high school soccer in Lewiston, ME - never words I thought I’d say. With whit, charm, and the generosity and honor they so deserve, Bass tells the story of Somali refugees and how they rise above their pasts spent in camps and fleeing from war and their present lives in small town ME where they are unwelcome, to form one team with One Goal. This book will make you want to stand up and cheer, will make you remember that one coach who made you feel special, and will make you think about how we, as Americans, treat those we accept into our borders, those other than ourselves.

This book has so many layers!! I am a big fan of soccer and thoroughly enjoyed that soccer was one layer of this book, BUT, the layers about community, acceptance, teamwork, coaching, diversity, love for others, etc are what made this book so hard to put down! After my second time reading it.... CONGRATULATIONS Amy Bass! You exceeded my expectations and met many goals with this story!I would like to see this book in homes, libraries, and classrooms. There are so many lessons to be learned for all ages. Lewiston had a lesson and story to be shared and Amy told it so well!

I graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, ME in 1963 and have been in close touch with the college and community since. However, even knowing that the influx of Somalis to the community has changed Lewiston remarkably since I was a student, I was unprepared by just how much. We need more stories like this; this book gave me hope at a time when I feel very depressed about views of the present administration on immigration.

Coming off the World Cup, I am again struck how sports can bring a people together - whether an entire country or a small city. One Goal is a compelling read because it captures the beauty of coming together for a common cause, but does not shy away from the difficulty. More than a book about soccer, it's a book about possibility. What would the world be like if we were all pulling for the same team?

My daughter resisted when I gave this to her, and laughed. But, I told her she needs to be a young lady. At 11, she has the sarcasm, rudeness, and spirit of all the girls she sees on the Disney Channel. This book gives her what I would say, if she would listen. It's relevant.

I bought this book for my daughter after threatening to send her to charm school for the summer. We practice good etiquette at home and I have always tried to reinforce it; however, I couldn't seem to get through to my daughter. She is 10 almost 11. This book changed things. As she read, I required her to write a summary of each of the small chapters and an example. Now, she is complimented everywhere we go on her manners. They have improved dramatically at home. She has a better awareness of why etiquette rules are what they are, and what the social norms are for a given situation.

I bought this book thinking young lady was young adult. This book would be great for anyone around 7-8 years old. Talks a lot about manners and being nice with friends as well as cell phone etiquette and treating your parents nicely.

My 12 year old read this book and loved it. I read parts of it, and laughed out loud. The author makes it fun to read. A very easy read and lots of practical advice. I recommend all young women to read this book, or read this book with a parent or older mentor.

I am no longer a child but I have found this book to be very helpful. My parents taught me basic manners and they tried to teach me to be kind and considerate. But I’m ashamed to admit that in my adulthood, I have deviated from what I was taught. This book has been a wonderful reminder of what it means to be, not only a lady, but a decent human being. I would recommend it to any girl/woman no matter her age.

Great gift for an aunt/uncle to give to niece without “parenting” your siblings child. It has classic manners and humor. Easy to read, got the gentleman for my nephew (originally bought the first one in store in Vail,CO) and the lady at the register thanked me for helping this next generation 🤣

easy for kids to read and a chapter can easily be discussed during a dinner. It gives the reason for doing something and reasons for not doing things. Excellent. Good for all ages.

My daughter says, "Very nice. I used some of the table manners for going out to dinner. Good quality!" :)

‘The Lost World of Genesis One’ was an interesting and challenging read for me. I found Walton’s previous work ‘Ancient Near Eastern Thought and the Old Testament’ a little less thought provoking but also more substantive. His ‘Survey of the Old Testament’ co-authored with Andrew Hill is as good as any other that I’ve encountered. A common theme among his works is that creation-ex-nihilo is not to be found in the Old Testament and that the Israelites, like their ancient near eastern neighbors were only interested in how God created the cosmos to be functional. In the ‘Lost World’ he provides an alternative interpretation of Genesis 1: that the seven days in this chapter describe a functional account of how God inaugurated an already existing cosmos to be his Temple habitat. Within this temple habitat He would rule, control, and maintain His creation. Since this inauguration account is not an actual historical account but a functional account of creation, it has no bearing or relation to the scientific understanding of how the universe and our world come to be. Therefore, people of faith don’t have to worry about whether science contradicts the creation account in Genesis 1.Per Walton, the Ancient Near East (ANE) concept of creation did not regard an object, or entity, as fully created until it was separated or differentiated from its environment, given a name or identity, and assigned a function. This description of how the ancients viewed the process of creation has real explanatory power to illuminate certain passages in the Old testament. It illuminates the fact that the sun, moon, and stars did not come into existence on day 4 for they had already come into existence materially by day 1. It is on day 4 that they were differentiated from their environment then given an identity and a function in relation to life on the earth. In another passage, Psalm 147:4, we are told that God counts the number of the stars and that He calls them all by name. Applying this ANE concept of creation to this verse indicates that the fact that each of the heavenly bodies is known by name means that each of the Heavenly bodies has an individual function. That they are also all counted by number would also seem to indicate that they have a collective function. What I find problematical concerns the following:1. Genesis 1 is not history but a description of an inauguration ceremony that ancient Israel may have used (perhaps annually) to describe God’s functional preparation of the cosmos as a temple for his habitation. There are a few problems with this. Not the least of which is that there is no concrete evidence that that such an inauguration ceremony ever existed in practice or even in the minds of the ancient Israelites. All Walton can provide is vague hints that this might have been so. Second, it seems apparent that the entire book of Genesis is presented as actual history, albeit history with a theological point of view, but actual history nevertheless. Whether one believes this history to be accurate is irrelevant to the point that the author of Genesis is presenting it as history. It is for this reason that I can’t accept the literary Framework interpretation of Genesis one. Genesis 2:4 declares that all the preceding verses are the chronicles or ‘toledoth’ [Hebrew] of the heavens and earth. This word ‘toledoth’ occurs throughout the book of Genesis. Walton seems to contend that it is used only as a literary marker or introduction. But every time it occurs in Genesis the author is emphasizing that he is providing a real historical chronology, most of the time by way of genealogy. Third, if Genesis one is not history but a ceremonial metaphor one cannot objectively discern where literary metaphor ends and actual history begins. If the author of Genesis intentionally combined literary metaphor and actual history one would expect to see such transition markers inserted for the benefit of the reader. No one, so far that I have read, has been able to demonstrate the existence of such markers.2. The Cosmos is being portrayed as God’s Temple in which He will take rest and use as the control room headquarters for His operational direction of the cosmos. My first observation is that there is no mention of a ‘temple’ anywhere in this passage nor anywhere else in the book of Genesis. It is certainly strange that such an important concept is not mentioned anywhere at all in a passage supposedly relating an inauguration ceremony for it. Secondly, the ANE functional concept of the temple presented in this book seems at odds with the one for the Jewish temple presented in both Old and New Testaments. I can’t find an instance in either the Old or New Testament where the Temple of God is described as the operational headquarters of deity. What I do find is that It is the place where the sins of men can be dealt with so that men and women can have fellowship with their creator. There is an earthly temple but more importantly there is also a heavenly temple (Heb 8:1-5; Rev 11:19; 14:15-7; 15:5-8; 16:1,17). Both are dedicated solely for the eradication of human sin. In both the heavenly and earthly temples it is the altar that is the central feature (comp Heb. 8:5 with Rev 8:3-5; 14:18; 6:7). It is also important to note that Hebrews 8:5 makes it clear that the earthly temple is a replica of the heavenly temple. This means that the heavenly temple does not encompass all of creation nor does it encompass all of Heaven itself. When God creates the new heaven and new earth there will no longer be a temple in the new creation (Rev 21:22). This is because sin will no longer be a problem in the new creation and thus there will be no need for a temple and its altar to deal with it. The implication that there is no constructed temple in the new creation runs counter to the common pagan ANE concept of the purpose and need for a temple for deity presented by Walton. If there is no temple in the new creation subsequent to the eradication of human sin, then there was no need for a temple in Genesis one prior to the introduction of human sin in chapter 3. While Walton’s scholarship in establishing the concept of temple function among the peoples of the ANE is impressive it also seems to me that he has erred in imposing this pagan concept of the temple onto Genesis 1.3. Genesis 1 is an entirely functional account of creation. Material existence is not in view in the creation account and neither is the concept of ‘Creation Ex Nihilo’, the creation of something from nothing.I have no reason to question Walton’s description of the general cultural understanding in the ANE as to what it means to create nor do I have reason to dispute that the pagan cultures surrounding Israel were not interested in how something acquired material existence. On the other hand, I do have reason to question the assertion that the culture of the nation of Israel also had no interest in how the material universe came into being. The creation by God of all things out of nothing was emphasized by the ancient Jewish authors of 2 Maccabees (7:28), 2 Baruch (21:4), and 2 Enoch (24:2). All three were probably written in the 2nd century BC which means that the writers were still steeped in the ANE culture of Israel. Furthermore, the New Testament writers also emphasized Creation Ex Nihilo by God (Rom 4:17; Heb 11:3). Walton acknowledges the NT references to Creation Ex Nihilo but attributes them to a growing interest in material aspects in New Testament times rather than as a reference to Genesis 1. While I do not deny the New testament interest in the cause of material existence of things it also seems clear to me that the shared understanding and emphasis of all these ancient writers on Creation Ex Nihilo is based on their shared understanding of Genesis 1 as a historical account of how the Heavens and earth came into material existence. It has been the near unanimous traditional interpretation of the ancient Christian Church and Judaism from the third century BC until the 10th century A.D that Genesis 1:1 is an absolute statement describing the initial creation of all matter and the heavenly bodies from nothing by God (see Gordon Wenham’s commentary on Genesis, Vol 1, p 13). Walton however sees Genesis 1:1 as a summary introduction of the functional creation account detailed in the rest of Genesis chapter one. His strongest argument in favor of this is that Genesis 2:1 states that “thus the heavens and the earth and all the host of them were finished” indicating that Gen 1:1 must be seen as recapitulated in detail from 1:2 to 2:1. His point is valid only if one sees all of Genesis one as referring to only a functional creation. If 1:1 describes the material creation coming into existence, then the rest of the following verses can also be seen as the shaping of the material created in verse one to a completed product by day seven. In which case 2:1 need not be seen as ending only functional creation processes but as the end of the entire creative process begun in 1:1. But more importantly the apostle John in the first three verses of his gospel appears to have interpreted Genesis 1:1 in this manner: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” (Jn. 1:1-3 NKJ). It seems clear to me at least that John is referring to Creation Ex Nihilo for the entire creation and tying it to a common interpretation of Genesis 1:1. That John is referring to Genesis 1:1 is demanded by the phrase “In the beginning” which translates the Hebrew exactly to the point of even leaving out the Greek definite article before the word ‘beginning’ to match the same anarthrous construction in the Hebrew. Since Walton argues that the culture of the first century AD took a greater interest in material creation than previous generations it would be difficult for him to deny that John is referring to creation ex nihilo and remain consistent.4. A scholar’s knowledge of a long dead ancient culture is vitally necessary to interpret Genesis 1.If Genesis is a result of God’s inspired revelation to mankind would it likely have been written in such a way that only a long dead culture could truly understand it? From a historical/theological perspective the opposite has been true. This phenomenon is referred to by theologians as progressive revelation.Theologians and Bible scholars have noted this progression in the development and expansion of concepts and doctrine from its simplest form in the earliest books of the Old Testament to their development through to the end of the New Testament. This development of understanding continued even after the completion of the Canon. J. Oliver Buswell in his Systematic Theology of the Christian Religion notes that though the doctrine of the Trinity is certainly revealed in the Scriptures that ‘it is was not until the Council of Nicaea, 325 A.D., that it was unequivocally defined in conscience of the church’. Similarly the doctrine of the human and divine natures in Christ was not made systematically explicit until Chalcedon in 451 A.D. (Vol 1, p. 384). The creation ex nihilo passages in the New Testament should be seen as commentary on Genesis 1 and not unrelated concepts. In like manner, our understanding of the semantics of physical and temporal phenomena described in scripture have developed over time. In other words God has given revelation concerning his material creation in language that could be received and processed in a limited way by the ancient Israelites but not necessarily completely understood. Yet I believe that it was also given in such a way so that it would speak to all generations and cultures with the necessary interpretive keys embedded within text. As an illustration of embedded keys, Walton may be correct that the ancient Israelites held to the view that the firmament (KJV), or expanse (in most modern versions) was a solid dome. But notice that in Genesis 1:8 God calls the firmament ‘heaven’. In Job 35:5 and Psalm 8:8 heaven clearly refers to the air in the sky or the atmosphere and not to a solid dome. Even if most ancient Israelites misunderstood the word there was still the possibility of a correct understanding of these passages. If Genesis is presented as actual history then concordism is not something to be avoided as Walton would like to do. Instead concordism would appear to be a necessity to bring about the correct intersection of Genesis history and science. I still find that the Day-Age view of Genesis 1 provides the most exegetically viable view and the most intellectually satisfying understanding of this passage in retaining the inspired revelatory aspect of Genesis.

Well written and an interesting take based on looking at Genesis 1 from the worldview of the author in the ancient Near East. Dr. Walton has good arguments based on the Hebrew text and the best point is how the Bible is not a scientific book. I am both a scientist (medical research, toxicology, molecular biology) and a Christian. I get frustrated when people try to "see" scientific theories in theological texts. The people authoring and reading ancient books had no knowledge of our science or the changing science of tomorrow. Science is ever changing and what we believe today will not be what we believe tomorrow. We can detect the physical world and that is all. Metaphysics is beyond the scope of science so trying to argue a reading of theological books based on scientific theories makes no sense.Whether you agree with Dr. Walton's theory or not, it is a well written book and will make you think about science and the Bible in different ways. We can have our own presuppositions but for anyone seeking answers to questions, we need to research ideas we may not have heard. I read on Ken Ham's site much about how this book is wrong and it is false teaching. I have no problem with Ken Ham but for anyone to come out and state categorically that their idea is correct and anyone who disagrees is teaching falsely (unless it is obviously false from a Scriptural basis) seems like hubris to me. I can see both Dr. Walton and Ken Ham as brothers in Christ whether I believe their theories or not. Since the Bible was not written to inform anyone on science or the material world, I lean towards Dr. Walton's side. This in no way negates my belief in Jesus as God or any acts written about in the Bible. I have to look at the Bible as the Word of God but also interpret the meaning based on the worldview of the writers and not what I "feel" is correct.

The book authored by John H. Walton is laid out in 18 propositions with a summary, conclusion, and a FAQs section. The essence of the author's view is that Genesis 1 represents ancient cosmology which has functional concerns as its primary focus and not material origins as we today would think of it. He further argues that Genesis 1 should be seen as the establishment of the world as God's temple. I find his arguments much more persuasive than those offered by the literalism of young earth creationism or the concordism of old earth creationism (Hugh Ross being an example).I did find Walton's insistence on the distinction between teological versus dysteological views of evolution to be a bit much (he is following Denis O. Lamoureux here), mostly because the distinction is a metaphysical one and not germane to the science itself. I also have some qualms with the way he presents "Neo-Darwinism" as if it was a monolithic viewpoint when in fact there are people within the paradigm that hold to various metaphysical views regarding purpose or its lack of in evolution.Despite these disagreements Walton does show why and how one can hold to a serious view of Genesis 1 and to modern concepts of science without them necessarily being in conflict. This is a short read and one that I highly recommend to anyone who has an interest in the origins debate and its relationship to faith and the Bible.

I've been getting more aware of the plight of abandoned, neglected and abused big cats in the last year. It's an issue that deserves more attention and support. McCloud's photos prove a picture is worth a thousand words over and over. These big cats, being cats, are proud, dignified and graceful even in their captive plight. And they are the lucky ones! This book is a wonderful way of getting the message out. There are more of his photos you can link to from the ERFC website: [...] too. Many of those beg for yet another book! This book will bring you the mixed feelings of awe at the cats beauty and sorrow for what we humans have done to them.

I ran across this excellent little book in a public setting, and decided I had to find a copy to give to my granddaughter, who adores cats of every kind. Very happy with it, since each individual animal is presented through very fine photography and the reader is further given a verbal picture of its history and special personality.

This is a heartwarming and heart-breaking book of insights into the horrible fate that takes all too many of our Big Cats; yet here thankfully, it's also about a special place, "The Exotic Feline Rescue Center" where many have been taken to live out their lives in comfort, security, company with their own kind, and medical treatment whenever needed. It's about persons who know how to care for the big cats special needs. What is also wonderful for the reader is that Stephen D. McCloud, a gifted photographer, spent over 3 years taking some of the very best pictures I've seen of "resident" felines. There's some information of how these big cats came to be here, updates on how they're doing and how they have made themselves "at home" (for their comfort, not always ours). Now I am out to find additional copies of this important book on Amazon's Used lists to share it with others, especially where the information on how urgent, critical, imperative it is, that breeding, selling, other cruel profit-motivated ventures taken up with no knowledge or ability to do so for the well-being of the felines or the ignorant buyers who usually are seriously injured, even killed, can help to raise the awareness of putting laws on the books, and enforcing them, changing State laws if they are a problem to enforcement, and to educate/inform would-be buyers of the really bad decision they would be making if they chose to proceed with their desire. I believe it was Mahatma Gandhi who said you can tell how civilized a country is by the way they treat their animals. I was shocked at how often this cruelty occurs, it could be happening In your own vicinity. Please, ask questions. Please, care.

The Exotic Feline Rescue Center is the saving grace to somewhere around 170 big cats (they have acquired more since the publishing of this book). This book could be a great teacher to the world (especially breeders and private owners) about the realities of sending these beautiful creatures out into the world as "pets". I have been to the compound in Center Point a number of times, and have taken a LOT of pictures, but the pictures in this book are the most beautiful ones I've seen. And the stories can be heartbreaking, too. The way some people have treated these creatures of God is appalling, as you will read in this book. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. And that tunnel ends at Center Point, Indiana in the Exotic Feline Rescue Center. I recommend you buy this book, and have your friends buy this book. Everyone will enjoy it, and hopefully learn something from it. And a portion of the proceeds will go to the EFRC, and every little bit helps.

The book does the Exotic Feline Rescue Center justice. Stephen has captured the animals through wonderful photography. My granddaughter loved the center and enjoys the book.

As an animal lover, i really enjoyed this book. It does bring to light the ever growing and out of control problem of the exotic animal trade. I knew this has always been a problem, but had to idea to what extent. It is wonderful to see that there are sanctuaries that care about and for all these magnificent creatures. However, we need more sanctuaries and also more needs to be done to enforce the laws of the illegal exotic animal trade business and harsher penalties for those caught doing these horrific deeds.

arrived on time and in good state

This is a wonderful overview of the Exotic Feline Rescue Center. Stephen McCloud has obviously fallen in love with the cats at the center and it shows. There are SO many animals that have fallen victim to the exotic pet trade...the Feline Rescue Center provides a safe haven for some of the lucky ones, that now call it home. This book provides an intimate look at some of the rescues living at the center and allows the reader to look at the cats on a more personal level. The exotic pet trade is a HUGE problem in our world today and only with the help of people like Mr. McCloud educating people through photographs and information on their plight, will more people get involved and raise the necessary funds to end the vicious cycle. Wild animals belong in the WILD, not behind bars or in canned hunts for trophies. The Exotic Feline Rescue Center provides as close to a natural environment that is able for these poor cats forced to live in captivity. Stephen McCloud does a wonderful job with stories backed up by fabulous pictures.

About the Author

Ted Lewin grew up in an old frame house in Buffalo, New York, with two brothers, one sister, two parents, a lion, an iguana, a chimpanzee, and an assortment of more conventional pets. The lion was given to his older brother, Don, while he was traveling as a professional wrestler, and he shipped it home. The family kept Sheba in the basement fruit cellar until Don returned and their mother convinced him to give it to the Buffalo zoo. Ted always knew he wanted to be an illustrator. As a child he copied the work of illustrators and painters he admired, including N. C. Wyeth, Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, Velázquez, and Goya. When it came time to go to art school (Pratt), he needed to earn money to finance his education. So, following in his brother’s footsteps, he took a summer job as a wrestler -- the beginning of a 15-year part-time career that eventually inspired his autobiographical book I Was a Teenage Professional Wrestler. Ted’s career as an artist began with illustrations for adventure magazines, and it’s only over the last several years that he has devoted his time to writing and illustrating children’s books. "I’m having more fun doing this than anything I’ve ever done before," he says. He is an avid traveler, and many of his books are inspired by trips to such places as the Amazon River, the Sahara Desert, Botswana, Egypt, Lapland, and India. His Market!, published in 1996, showcases markets around the world, from Uganda to Ireland to Ecuador.Touch and Go is a collection of stories about the adventures Ted had while researching his books. Gorilla Walk is his first collaboration with his wife, Betsy, and is about their trek to see the mountain gorillas in Uganda. They’ve just completed their second collaboration, Elephant Quest, set in the Okavango Delta of Botswana. Ted’s current project is about a Civil War drummer boy.Ted and Betsy live in Brooklyn, New York, where they share their home with two cats, Slick and Chopper.

I gave this a 5 star rating for many reasons: the book arrived much earlier than expected and in perfect condition! I bought a few copies to give as gifts for friends in teaching/childcare professions and for friends who are having kids of their own. I recently went to Egypt to travel around, and after being there, and reading this book, I can't imagine a book having better illustrations. The font is classic black color and great size (easy to read and not distracting for kids at all). I can't write enough about the illustrations- they are so incredibly lifelike, that you really feel like you're in the streets of Cairo while reading it. I would recommend this book for gift giving, or for kids 4th grade and under. I would also recommend this for anyone who wants to spark a curiosity and appreciation for cultures in children at an early age.

I agree with all the reviews here, and I want to add that even if you ignored the multicultural exposure this book provides it is a mesmerizing and fun read. My three year old girl loves it, along with my five year old girl. The pictures are beautiful, the words enchanting, the ideas positive(everyone needs a quiet moment to think during their day). The gentle exposure to the concept that there are kids out there who need to work (it's very uplifting, my kids are very sensitive and it doesn't bother them because it's all provided in context).

Excellent…my 4 year old grandson "got it". Powerful cultural message…gently conveyed. Marvelous illustrations.

Fantastic story about a little boy with a wonderful secret.

This book is well written and illustrated and will always be a constant reminder of my days living and working in Egypt. I have gladly shared this book with many of my friends and colleagues and will continue to do so. Proud to add it to my collection of memorabilia of my life in Egypt.

This is a beautiful, quiet book with gorgeous watercolor illustrations. I love this book, but unfortunately my preschoolers had no interest in it. Oh well, I will treasure it!

This is a very sweet book. I got it because I wanted my book-loving, half-Arab children to read good quality books with Arab characters, and I wasn't disappointed.

This is the seventh book in the Wings of Fire series by Sutherland. The eighth book will be titled Escaping Peril and is expected to release in January 2016. I really enjoyed this installment in the Wings of Fire series; this series just keeps getting better and better.Winter leaves the school at Jade Mountain to find his sister Icicle and save his brother Hailstorm. His fellow dragonettes decide to accompany him. Their journey takes them to the RainWing Kingdom and beyond; eventually they end up confronting Queen Scarlet yet again.I really enjoy this middle grade adventure fantasy series about dragons and friendship. My son got me reading this series and it took me a while to warm up to it, but now I am hooked. In this book we really get to know the next generation of dragons a lot better. Of course Winter is the focus of the story and it was nice to get insight into this moody and short-tempered dragon. We learn a lot about Winter’s background and he definitely has some trust issues to work through. Moon is in the story a lot as well, as are Qibli, and Kinkajou. All of the dragons have distinct and amusing personalities. We do still get to see what the original five dragonettes are up to. It was a lot of fun to see the progress those original five are making in bringing the dragon clans together and trying to recover from the decades long war. It’s definitely a challenge but they seem to be up to it. I also loved the little cameo by Squid, he is hilarious; I hope he features in a future book. The main story here is definitely Winter retrieving Hailstorm and facing his family’s continued disappointment in him. However, there is still a looming side story about a great danger coming from the skies. Additionally we are seeing more and more of the Scavengers (humans) as the story progresses.Overall I really enjoyed this book in the Wings of Fire series; I think it was my favorite one so far. This series has been full of wonderful middle grade fantasy adventures. I love that the characters are building such solid friendships and that in the more recent books the adult dragons are working with the dragonettes to forge a peaceful dragon nation. I will definitely continue reading this series and highly recommend this to fantasy fans; especially the middle grade age set.

Interesting first look into how Icewings are, from one of their own, that we didn't get in the first 5 books. Finished it in only two days and I can't wait for the next one, though I'm upset it's not from Kinkajou's or Qibli's perspective (I really hope there is one from Qibli's perspective in the future because he's my favorite of the dragonets :) ). I loved the author's take on Winter and how over time he learns dragons from other tribes really aren't as bad as the Icewings think them to be. I thought Winter's crush on Moon, who's a Nightwing which are the sworn enemies of Icewings based on a lie, was adorable and really helped him see all Nightwings aren't bad. Overall I thought this book was great and I'm actually pretty sad there won't be any other books in Winter's viewpoint :(

My niece was so excited to get this book! She loves the series because it is unique, intriguing and exciting. She gets into the characters and it's been her favorite book series yet. In fact, we pre-ordered this one on Amazon before it was available because she was so excited. She's 2/3 through and loving it. I definitely recommend this series. I found it was a better price to buy each book individually, although I bought the first 5 at the same time. Please click "HELPFUL" if you appreciated this honest review.

Yes I'm over 40 and love this series. I love buying my kids books and reading them first. Winter isn't the most likeable Dragon but as we go through the book he discovers that the Icewings arent the end all, be all dragons...and that other types of dragons are just as rich in history, beauty and knowledge as the Icewings. Very good book. Read it in a day. My son is ten and I'm planning on letting him start this series in a year or two more. I just think some stuff he wouldn't get yet. Highly recommend.

Tui good job!I read all the books including Legends:Darkstalker and all the Winglets already, and I have a few predictions about book 10,but before we get to it,let me explain some of the critical events that led to those predictions:1)The release of Foeslayer and the thoughts about how Onyx wants to be queen of the world in book 7.2)Dragons with gold BIRD medallions buying dragonflame cacti in book 8.3)Darkstalker mistakening Turtle as Fathom, dragons with gold BIRD medallions(possibly the same ones who hadbeen buying dragonflame cacti in book 8),SeaWing students on an overnight trip being haunted by the ghost of ALBATROSS,and the death of Queen Glacier in book 9.4)Darkstalker and ALBATROSS both being stopped by Fathom in Legends:DarkstalkerAlright, now time to get to the predictions:First, there will be civil war in the Ice Kingdom,as Queen Glacier is dead, but not killed by any of the heirs.Second,Albatross will appear in some way,as the dragons that set off dragonflame cacti in the Kingdom of Sand has gold BIRD medallions that resemble Albatross, since an albatross is a type of a large bird, and the SeaWing students are haunted by Albatross' ghost. Also, the part where Darkstalker mistakes Turtle for Fathom means Albatross will seek revenge on Turtle too, since Turtle looks like Fathom, and is also an animus.Third,Qibli will use the dragon finding coral that be burrowed from Turtle(The descirption of book 10 says that Qibli used the animus objects that he burrowed from Turtle to give his talons the power to make a difference)to find Foeslayer, which disappeared in book 8,and then reunite her with Darkstalker, and then he gets like less evil, and releases Turtle from the dungeons, then Anemone enchants Turtle to be an animus again, and he stops Darkstalker with animus powers.Well...this is the longest review that I've ever wrote, soooo I guess thats it...Bye.p.s.Qibli's my fav character,so thx for making him the protangonist and PoV of the last book in the series!
