This is not your typical BDSM plot – oh, it’s there, but so is something else. I did enjoy the flashbacks interspersed with the first person present tense; it actually assisted me in feeling connected to the action. The characters are well defined, but gradually not, BANG and done, again helping the reader to immerse themselves into the story. The plot is present and obvious, but oh, those glorious sub-plots are what keep tugging you to the end.To sum up, I couldn’t put it down; cover to cover in one sitting and pleasingly entertained throughout.

This was the scariest book I have ever read! I'm one part my Greatgrandson, walked into my bedroom, (did not knock) and said Nana, I lost it! I yelled so loud the people down the block must have thought I was getting killed! This book could give you nightmares for life! Definitely a must read, but read it during the daytime. What a mixture of emotions I got behind this story. First off, I love Gable and his best friend Shawn, they totally get each other and protect one another. When Leather Head, a serial killer, pops into the scene, I have to admit I kinda liked him. Totally sexy and confident, but turns twisted real quick and then I hated myself for even entertaining the thought of him being the way he was and is. He has an amazing cockiness. He's a psycho-nut job. I loved the flow with the story and how it all played out in the end though.Great job to the author, Matt Converse.

I really enjoyed this short from Matt Converse. The way it's structured creates a suspenseful, nail-biting countdown to the final question: will the killer add Gable to his collection? You'll want to find out. I look forward to reading more of Converse's work.

Awesome book. This book was a page turner that I just couldn't stop reading until the end.I had loved this book.I would highly recommend this book.

This one is long but I definitely enjoyed reading it. I am not usually disappointed when I read this author.

About the Author

Ramez Elmasri is a professor and the associate chairperson of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington. He has over 140 refereed research publications, and has supervised 16 PhD students and over 100 MS students. His research has covered many areas of database manage- ment and big data, including conceptual modeling and data integration, query languages and indexing techniques, temporal and spatio-temporal databases, bioinformatics databases, data collection from sensor networks, and mining/analysis of spatial and spatio-temporal data. He has worked as a consultant to various companies, including Digital, Honeywell, Hewlett Packard, and Action Technologies, as well as consulting with law firms on patents. He was the Program Chair of the 1993 International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER conference) and program vice-chair of the 1994 IEEE International Conference on Data Engineering. He has served on the ER conference steering committee and has been on the program committees of many conferences. He has given several tutorials at the VLDB, ICDE, and ER conferences. He also co-authored the book “Operating Systems: A Spiral Approach” (McGraw-Hill, 2009) with Gil Carrick and David Levine. Elmasri is a recipient of the UTA College of Engineering Outstanding Teaching Award in 1999. He holds a BS degree in Engineering from Alexandria University, and MS and PhD degrees in Computer Science from Stanford University.                                                                                           Shamkant B. Navathe is a professor and the founder of the database research group at the College of Computing, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta. He has worked with IBM and Siemens in their research divisions and has been a consultant to various companies including Digital, Computer Corporation of America, Hewlett Packard, Equifax, and Persistent Systems. He was the General Co-chairman of the 1996 International VLDB (Very Large DataBase) conference in Bombay, India. He was also program co-chair of ACM SIGMOD 1985 International Conference and General Co-chair of the IFIP WG 2.6 Data Semantics Workshop in 1995. He has served on the VLDB foundation and has been on the steering committees of several conferences. He has been an associate editor of a number of journals including ACM Computing Surveys, and IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering. He also co-authored the book “Conceptual Design: An Entity Relationship Approach” (Addison Wesley, 1992) with Carlo Batini and Stefano Ceri. Navathe is a fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and recipient of the IEEE Computer Science, Engineering and Education Impact award in 2015. Navathe holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and has over 150 refereed publications in journals and conferences.

There's not much to add outside of what the headline explanations. For pros, I can definitely give the book ample credit on the extent to which it explains a variety of concepts and applications of database systems. For cons, the way it goes about conveying that information is often wordy beyond what is remotely necessarily, and oftentimes there are half-page long asides that really don't matter much in terms of the overarching concept of that section. Another issue which is more prevalent in the earlier sections is that the same database schema is often referred to in examples when in the case of those who are fresh learners, multiple different examples would be beneficial, particularly to show the wide variety of applications to which databases could be applied.My professor largely teaches from the book, so if you find yourself in a similar boat it shouldn't be hard at all to get through the class, especially if you end up having an affinity for databases.

I needed this for my class, and it was fine, but not great. The level of detail was pretty good and there were some well-developed examples, but as some other reviewers noted, the nature of the components building off one another meant that it might be hard to find the referenced schema in an earlier (or later) section of the book while you were looking at one section. And it didn't necessary give you the page numbers so you could flip back and forth easily. If they just added the page numbers that would definitely bump my rating up.

Note: This review is about the quality of the physical book, not the textbook's content in side the book.I was disappointed that the plastic packaging for the book peeled off half of the cover. Additionally, the pages of the book are printed on extremely thin, cheap newspaper quality paper, as opposed to the standard glossy textbook paper.However given that its <$30 I guess you can't complain too much.... but if you have more money to blow or rich parents or scholarships paying for your textbooks, I definitely recommend a more expensive hardcover edition if one exists.

The title of this book suggests that it is merely the basics; don't be fooled. This book goes far beyond the fundamentals. It is over 1,000 pages of "stuff". It is used for graduate school classes in database design. I won't bore the reader with complex theories and jargon. In short, don't buy this book unless it is required for a school course. This book will only be of use if you are attending graduate school or in search of a PhD.If you are looking to understand how to build tables, define the relationship between tables, how to load data into a database, how to query the database of information, and simply desire a good foundation is the true "fundamentals" of database design then I recommend "The Practical SQL Handbook" by Judith Bowman and it's companion "Practical SQL the Sequel". These books will provide a better and more thorough understanding of the application of database design in terms you can understand and it leaves out the theoretical, discrete math, set theory "stuff".

Relational database theory, for a college level, Computer Science curriculum.I chose this book because it is a required text for an undergraduate database class. It presents relational database design from a theoretical basis. It provides an explanation, in depth, of the mathematical foundations of database theory. It is not a get started quickly, hands on guide to using SQL.This is an important text, and required reading for anyone looking for a deep understanding of relational database theory. It is not a hit the ground running, create a few queries quickly, how-to presentation. It is a serious work, and provides a serious understanding.

Overall, this is a wonderful book for learning how databases work. It doesn't cover the code for all modern database wonders, but hits most of them. Best of all, it provides psuedo code showing how to implement your own methods. However, I did find errors with some of the code, in particular the sorted-merge join algorithm will miss records if the right-hand-side table has multiple matching fields. It was easy to correct, but a mistake on such a fundamental algorithm is hard to overlook. Worst, Pearson doesn't provide an easy-to-find errata site, so I couldn't report the bug or even see if there were others. Addison-wesley never had that problem. Reading this book will make any DBMS make sense under the hood. Finally, I take point away for wordiness. This books is overcomplicated and wordy and doesn't make itself useful to beginning developers. This book tries to be a history book and reference all in one and it can be overwhelming, even to someone who's written his own DBMS before. Half of the chapters seem like unnecessary chatter, just to take up some more pages to rake up the price . . . and what a price!

This is a great fundamentals text. The section overviews guide you through the book in a smooth fashion without any surprises. The exercises reinforce knowledge without overwhelming and the language is not terse.This book does imply a basic familiarity with set theory, which frankly is an obvious prerequisite as this is not exactly a MySQL cookbook and focuses more on the theoretical concepts of database systems and less on their implementations / semantics. Don't let that deter you. Set theory is not difficult to learn and reading this book will grant you all the knowledge you need to correctly design a database for nearly all commercial applications.The figures do take away from the effectiveness of the book in some situations. Some figures from 3 chapters previous are referenced, which will have you flipping back thick chunks of paper. The figures are also of poor quality for a 2011 publication. Not a huge issue, but could be better.

Its strength is that the author, Ms. Baker, does not make conclusory statements without factual and scientific substantiation, like some books in this area unfortunately do. (Compare "The Body Toxic" with "Poisoned Profits: The Toxic Assault on Our Children.") Ms. Baker carefully and precisely sets forth the scientific facts underlying the book's theme yet does so in an engaging way by including real-life stories that illustrate the hazards behind the scientific facts. The way that she exposes the dangers of assuming that the FDA is protecting the public with regard to these chemicals is especially compelling. In summary, "The Body Toxic" is an exceptionally well-written investigative book that we can't afford to ignore.

This book is a must-read for anyone concerned about the effects of environmental factors on health. Very eye-opening!

A must read! Most people don't realize how many toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis from products we use and how long the companies who manufacture these products have known what effects they have on us. A very informative book that hopefully will scare you into asking more questions and being more aware of what you are buying.

After reading this book the harsh reality of exactly how toxic our world has become comes to light. From the very pots and pans we eat off of to the very food we put in our mouths we all are suffering from chemicals and a huge toxic burden!

This should be required reading for any young couple planning to have children! Awesome collection of facts, studies and information about the toxins surrounding us and which ones to stay clear of.

I was aware of some of the hidden dangers in chemicals, cleaners, make-up etc. The book gave more examples of these toxic substances. We really are not aware what we are doing to our bodies on a day to day basis. And what's even more interesting is how these companies can get away with poisoning us without any consequences!

I am sure there are more toxins to know about now but I forgot to checkwhat year this book had been written. Good info though.
