Got a couple of chapters into the first one, decided I had better uses for my time, and removed it from my device. Reads like it was dashed off quickly, cardboard characters and stilted dialogue. The first time I've tried a "cozy mystery," and if this is a 5-star example of the genre it'll be the last. Glad I only wasted a buck on it.
Margot, Adam, Bentley, and Rosey are a few of the characters in these books, and all add to the stories. If course, we pull for Margot and Adam to end up together. The stories are varied enough to be interesting.My only complaint is that there are errors in each book that a good proofreader would easily spot. Sometimes they seem to be typos (her for he), some are missing words, and others involve grammar and usage. Still others are just careless errors, such as identifying a character as a D.I.A. agent instead of a D.E.A. agent. The editing in this series is certainly not the worst I have seen, but still shows a lack of attention to detail.Overall, this is a fun series that could use a bit of attention from a proofreader to make it even better.
I enjoyed the whole series. I liked the characters, and the mysteries, while not the most difficult to figure out, were fun and logical. If I could give this 4-1/2 stars, I would. The only thing that held me back from 5 stars was the lack of detailed editing. Some words were misused; other words were left out completely. Punctuation wasn’t always “spot on.â€
Easy read, easy to put down too.Could do with another edit and tightening of a few plot hole issues, and typos, but sweet stories and good value for money.Not recommend reading more than one at a time, as they are repetitive.
Margaret Durand's series of cozy mysteries are a treat to read. Each stands alone and is well-written. The characters are charming. One is an energetic pastry shop owner who produces excellent French pastries (from scratch), and the other is a Detective who worked with her now-deceased husband. Each book in the set constitutes a delicious cozy, complete with shady characters and the murder of a person with a past. All 12 stories are well-designed and well written. Each is a treat to read and watch the developing relationship between the widow and her persistent lover.
Surprised to find this series was so much more than just cozy mysteries. You meet Margot a dream to own her own bakery. To Adam a detective, they are meeting thru murder scenes. To finally dating, and finding time to do so more often, he encourages her to find a baker, which brings in Dexter. Later she will bring in Julie a young mother, and eager to learn. The romance blossoms as the stories continues thru this series. Which gave a nice touch with them finding happiness and being surrounded by friends, when they got married. As for the murder in each, are very well done to try and figure out the why, and who did it. Delightful, intriguing of how they find the clues and why murder was done The story does continue thru the 12, and maybe more will be added.
I enjoyed the books in the series. They are fun, light, interesting, and engrossing. The love story parts are wholesome and sweet. The books are full of adventure, quaint towns, beautifully described scenery, endearing characters, twists, turns, excitement, and enough mention of delicious pastries to have caused a five pound weight gain. However, there are many errors: misspelled words, wrong tenses, incorrect words. Please try to fix this. The errors are disappointing, distracting, and give a very amateurish feel to the otherwise fun, satisfying stories. The 99 cent price for 12 Kindle books is a super bargain. I found that I did not want to leave the characters. Please eliminate the many errors. I look forward to reading more Cozy Mystery series.
I really enjoyed this series. Time was taken to develop characters, and it wan'ts a typical, instant "Woman falls in love with detective." Romance develops, but with thoughtful consideration. These could all be read as stand alone and would still be good, though it would be easier to understand relationships by starting with book 1.
