That is the question my two- year old asked me every night. She was totally engaged in the book! My 4 - year old was engrossed in the simple but beautiful and expressive artwork and managed to calm herself to listen to the entire story (an amazing feat as parents with 4 year olds will tell you).My only complaint is that the book is actually a bit too short. It was just too much fun....Also let's face it he was totally faking it WE KNOW YOU CAN SWIM MR....er...er...crorodile!

A clever retelling of the Ugly Duckling story. Our protagonist does not run away and hide until he's beautiful and accepted like the aforementioned UD. But rather, he discovered what makes him unique and special while playing with his brothers and sisters. And, they accept him and have fun with him once that transformation occurs. A positive message from a clever book.

This picture book is absolutely adorable. The story is cute, funny, and beautifully illustrated. My storytime kids loved the book and so did the adults. I love it!

It's basically the ugly duckling, but a more entertaining take on the tale. And it's adorable.

Love this book! A great book full of hilarious pictures, great writing, and allows you to make a bunch of wild noises. I bought this for my two year old. I think I'm putting it on my bookshelf instead!

I haven't read this one just yet. I purchased through my coworkers advice that it's a fabulous book with many options in extending a lesson, integrating some additional compprehension skills!!!!

I bought my copy of these two meditations directly from Dr. Joe’s website as a download for $4.95 for the both of them, instead of $14.82 for the CD that’s listed here. He must have read your criticisms and re-recorded it, because the sound quality is decent enough for an mp3 file: 44.1 kHz at 192 kbps (one reviewer here said the CD audio quality was VERY bad). And, there is none of the offending sibilance (hissing sounds) in evidence. His website says, “new edition now includes an introduction by Dr. Joe & new song,” which implies that he must have issued a new recording of these two meditations. So you might want to avoid the older version listed here.That said, the biggest problem I had with these new files is the darn gongs going off. There are three of them in each meditation, one for each week of the program. For the fourth week, you're supposed to meditate through to the end. The induction portion of the meditation does a great job of getting you very relaxed. Then, instead of letting you drift peacefully into the next section (Week 2, if you’re following along with the book) you are hit on the head with a sonic bomb, bringing you right out of your trance. Kinda defeats the purpose of a deep meditation, doesn’t it?My solution was to open the files in a sound editor, isolate the offending gong sounds, and then replace those sections with matching sections from the original music. This was quite a bit of work, but at least now I can either stop when I hear him introducing the next script, or drift peacefully into the next week’s lesson without being gonged over the head. To me, the gongs were a real mood killer when you’re trying to stay in a meditative state.Sorry, Dr. Joe. No more gongs for you, OK?

I truly have a desire to change my life. 1st thing I did was read "Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself." The next step was taken on the New Moon to start Day 1 of the meditation CD. The 1st day was a struggle because my mind & body fought staying present. I continued for the next 6 days each day was easier then the previous day to stay in the zone. Preceded to Phase 2 on day 8 it was basically uneventful did the exercise as required. Day 9 I actually had a break through when doing stage 2 of meditation. I could feel my mind vibrating, maybe it was rewiring itself all I know is something was happening. This is my experience I plan on continuing my morning meditations on schedule as directed in book.

Using this CD has been amazing. After reading the book and doing all of the writing assignments, I was able to expand my self-awareness 10 fold. I am a school social worker who has been doing spiritual work for more than 30 years. Amazingly, I learned so much about my subconscious feelings and thoughts. I have been doing the meditations for 30 days. I have to say, that they are transforming my mind and my life. I have already shared the book. I will soon share the meditations with others. I highly recommend this tool.

His ideas, methods and program are revolutionary and will help SO many people, no matter how young or old, finally realize their highest potential. Thank you, Dr. Joe! There are many free videos online where you can learn more about his approach. The book and CD brings all of his ideas together concisely, in one place.

For the first week I tried the meditation up to the first gong sound and I didn’t really ‘get it’. Once I progressed past that I thought it was absolutely amazing!

One in particular changed my thinking about how scenes are made. It was about how each scene should be it's own story with a beginning, middle and end. This book deals with the guidelines of a scene and what's needed to create a strong one. I think this book is ideal for new authors.However, I became somewhat disenchanted around chapter 13 because the format wasn't how I expected. In the first book, Randy broke down an entire novel into 10 simple steps. At the end of each chapter, you knew exactly what to do. It's not like that with this book. I wished that Randy offered more concise steps about scene construction. Overall, it's worth the $2.99.There's two other books I wish to include about scenes. One is "How To Write That Scene: Professional Techniques For Fiction Authors," by Rayne Hall and "Make a Scene: Writing a Powerful Story One Scene at a Time" by Jordan Rosenfeld. Those books coupled with this will give you much confidence with creating all types of scenes.

Randy Ingermanson breaks the scene-writing process down in a clear and concise manner and has some fun doing it. He continues the theme from his "How to Write a Novel Using the Snowflake Method", honing in on individual scenes. He then shows how each "mini story" contributes to the big picture. Using some well-known examples, he points out how the process plays out to create stories that satisfy readers, and keep them turning pages. I loved the first book and I think I liked this one even more. A must-read, especially for new writers.

Randy's book is a winner in helping other writers learn the craft. This book will show you the key difference between a so-so writer and a great writer. What is it? Building scenes with Randy's interpretation of the proactive scene and the reactive scene. And placing your protagonist in a situation that becomes a crucible for her. If you're writing sci-fi, fantasy, romance or mysteries this book will help you become the best writer you can be. I used Randy's hints and tips (from his website material which he enhanced in this book) to write my first book and his ideas turned me from a struggling writer to a professional writer.

I liked the book a lot and found many useful tools. The most useful one is the idea about how each scene needs to be a story in and of itself. I think Mr. Ingermanson has deeply integrated the wisdom of Dwight Swain (from the book "Techniques of the Selling Writer") and made it into his own teaching. Bravo!My only criticism of this book is that it is really, in the end, more about "How to Tell if You Have Written a Dynamite Scene" than "How to Write One." Bu it is so important for an author to be able to triage his/her scenes - and at the end of the book, the Ingermanson focuses exactly on that. If the book was titled and structured entirely around triage, I would have given it 5 stars. As it is, it contains straightforward and wonderful advice, and I can still wholeheartedly recommend it. And really, when you think about it, telling someone how to triage a scene is pretty damn close to helping them write it in the first place.

I picked this one up after enjoying his previous book about writing a novel with the snowflake method. This book is concise but packed full of good info, in which the author hones in on how to write good scenes. There isn't going to be much info on how the scenes work together as a narrative outside "proactive" and "reactive" scenes, but you can find that in his other book. Here, he distills down what you need to make captivating scenes that keep readers reading.I liked how he remained consistent with examples from novels throughout the book. Every concept you learn he reinforces with examples from three popular books, which was helpful in seeing the technique in action.This is the kind of book I'd like to see more of: small chunks of craft that are focused on so you aren't wading through a tom that includes everything about writing. I'm looking forward to what is next.

I had previously read How to Write a Novel Using the Snowflake Method and enjoyed it which is why I purchased this book--this book was even more helpful. I hope that Randy writes a book for all aspects of writing. They're fun to read and make the point.I'd already written several scenes for my historical novel and I'm glad that I was procrastinating so that I didn't have to go back and change too much. By following Randy's methods my scenes are now much more effective (and easier to write), particularly the reactive scenes. His examples gave me a clear insight into the various techniques being described.Thanks again!

Had to use this for a class, the content was generally pretty good. The authors cover the critical concepts generally well, but the verbose nature of the composition is unnecessary. I ended up buying "The Kimball Group Reader - Remastered Collection", which has a much better flow and an engaging read, plus it is much more economical. Unlike the price for MDBM edition 12 -- beyond reasonable! Even for the rental.Such is the racket that Pearson is known to have a near monopoly on the college and university market. FTC should investigate. Seriously, it is nothing short of racketeering.

This isn't one of those books you can quickly scan and understand. Rather, it's a text you find a quiet place and dedicate team to interpret and appreciate the foundation of E-R model. Once I realized the difference (by Chapter 3 I went back to chapter 1), and spent hours with each chapter, I could appreciate that everything was presented logically and of necessity. Excellent text - a keeper.

Content was mediocre, but the presentation in the kindle version was terrible. The table of contents had so many headings (often more than one per page of content) that trying to move to a location in the second half of the book required a ton of scrolling through the list.I also inadvertently tried to open the book on one too many devices. Typically, Kindle books can be read on up to 6 devices, but this one balked on device #4. I got a warning that I needed to deregister it from a device to download it again. I tried doing so on my home PC and phone, so I could access from the laptop I use for the class which assigned the book, and it still didn't work. I had to make sure that I had my iPad with me because that was the only device which could still access the content. Of course, I could have purchased it again. Given the price of this book, I assume that the publishers cracked down on usage on concurrent devices because they knew otherwise students would try to share it and they'd miss out on gouging as many students as they can.

Let's break down one of his sentences:"The explanation earlier in this chapter of the database development process referred to several different, but related, models of databases developed on a systems development project."Book is about 500+ pages, and probably could be reduced to 400 pages, if the author knew how to condense the english language, and use better words, around commas. I wouldn't even consider it verbose, it's almost like someone sleep talking.

Took longer than expected to receive the book, it was nicely shrink wrapped but I noticed corners were wrinkled (cant blame paper back) and a stain on the inside of back cover page (not sure how that happened). Contents are the same as the American version, but it was cheaper to buy than rent this semester.

I read this cover to cover as a casual database user. Never designed a database in my life or been responsible for database administration. This book provided some good high-level context to me about databases, and reinforced and added to my knowledge about querying databases. The text is a little disjointed (jumping from text to SQL to C to JavaScript just assuming the reader could comprehend the what and why of the code). It's all written for Oracle, so some of the functions simply are irrelevant if you don't use that expensive but powerful system. One last thought. The text is very verbose. Lots of sentences with highlighted keywords and no definitions. Don't try to define a word by using it in a sentence. Too much of the material made me say "huh?? what information was imparted here?" But there are good nuggets buried in the dross.

I'm a little irritated. When you try to download the Access version for the big Pine Valley Furniture Company it links to the ASCII version. If you replace the file name with BigPVFC11e.zip you will get the file. However the examples in chapter 2 don't actually match what you download. So the queries they show you as an example don't work. You can still play with the tables but for a $200 book you think they would make sure their website is accurate.The information in the book seems comprehensive.

Basically, the information this book contains is rendered inaccessible by the poor presentation.Remember writing that paper where you needed more length, so you went back and reworded everything to be expressed in a more complicated way? That's this textbook. Sentences are needlessly long, making content more difficult to absorb. Word choices are fluttery and fanciful when they need to be brick-solid. The prose squanders my time and my attention.Composition is bad. This book consistently names something I've never heard of, talks for a few paragraphs about it as though I know what it is, leads me to believe I've missed something and maybe I should go back and find it, and then finally defines the thing. Additionally, time after time something is brought up and then dismissed as being "beyond the scope of this text" or contained in proper detail in some other, future chapter (your princess is in another castle...).Images are never anywhere near the point in the text that references them! Reading about figure X-X? Well, figure X-Y is directly adjacent to what you're reading, and X-X is two pages back. For an e-book this is impossible to deal with, and even for a physical copy this would be ridiculous.And the jokes? Yes, it's got jokes. They aren't good. They aren't funny. They are meant to be a way of keeping the reader engaged, but they fall flat and they take up space I had hoped would contain useful information.This textbook is awful. It contains mountains of good information, but the writing is so bad as to render the content inaccessible.
