I bought this to be best informed when I attended my recent eval for a new chair. This won't be my first, but I've always felt that all factors weren't being taken into account at the seating clinic. This book is fairly detailed and covers technical, social and other issues related to mobility. Using this, I was indeed better informed about both the options available and the thought process that clinicians go through to fit a chair. It was an easy read and well worth the money

I am an MOT student and this book was EXTREMELY helpful while in school and will be a great resource when I am working in the field. It walks you through the entire evaluation and does a great job of explaining the ins and outs of the process, as well as discussing guidelines for insurance, etc. I would definitely recommend this book, and I am not one to normally praise a schoo

Since much has changed in the world of wheelchair technology, funding, CMS coding and wheelchair standards in the past few years, I was eager to review the book for evidence of those changes. The book reflects professional expertise but is short on a few of the fine points that are important to end users. I am also a wheelchair seating and mobility clinician and have focused research interest in the area of wheelchair transportation safety. Since I believe the purpose of a wheelchair is to get people out and into the community, I think the entire issue of using a crash-tested wheelchair and crash tested occupant restraints was inadequately covered. If a wheelchair user cannot transfer safely or easily from a wheelchair and into a crash tested vehicle seat, then they should be informed that WC19 (a standard that describes the design, testing, and labeling of a crash tested wheelchair) wheelchairs are available and helped to find one that also meets their primary seating and mobility issues. Pelvic positioning belts should NEVER be counted on for occupant restraint in a vehicle. In fact, the use of crash-tested securement straps or a docking systems along with a 3-point lap shoulder belt are essential for occupant protection in a vehicle. The smaller the vehicle (personally owned van) the greater the forces exerted on the passenger and the wheelchair. There was no mention of public transit or the ADA which now requires public transit buses to have 2 wheelchair securement stations. RESNA, the rehab engineering and assistive technology society of North America, has been a lead in developing these and other standards and promoting the use of a client-centered model of service delivery. New credentials for basic and advanced expertise in the delivery of assistive technology services are offered. A rehabilitation engineering research center on wheelchair transportation safety offers up to date information on crash tested products, standards and best practice in all transportation modes at [...]. It is ok. Not as good as expected. Looked at the 2nd volume sample but did not buy. It is not organized by step if you are hoping to give it to someone in a 12-step program. That is why I give it 3 stars. A random hodge podge of readings. On the other hand, if the intended reader does not already have a number of good daily meditation readers, then this one will be greatly appreciated by someone in recovery.

I read the daily prayer every night before I go to bed. It is a must for me. I love the way the month and day in the front of the book send you to random prayers throughout. If I follow that...I invariably find exactly what I am meant to find. Read it on your knees right beside your bed and it will send "angel bumps" down your arms. You won't be disappointed. You will feel connected!I have bought several as gifts for my friends in recovery and they love these prayers as well.

The hard work of recovery from alcoholism and/or the effects of it from another in our lives is sometimes daunting. Reading just a little prayer each day makes the journey a little easier because we see hope. Others have made it; so can we.

Amazing book, has many well-known prayers and many many new ones that I have never even heard once. Great book if you're looking for a little change or something new to recite in the mornings. Also gave me the opportunity to find a specific prayer for a specific feeling or worry I might be having. Mainly i love it because it adds new perspective to my life, and I like to take phrases from many prayers and form them into one large one, that sort of thing. Also I love the size, it's convenient and quaint.

I prefer more of a daily inspiration format, being able to read each one based on the date in sequential order. This one works more like an index where you'd look up the date and it tells you a page and prayer number to look up for that day...and it's a bit confusing with two numbers (page and prayer number).

I could connect right away to the prayers and the meaning of them. I take the book to the gym and read the prayers on the stationary bike, and it makes exercising easier.

Beautiful prayer book for anyone with a belief in a power greater than themselves. I highly recommend this book.

I'm now in my 60's, and at age 4 or 5 I became a rapturously born again Christian (non-demoninational). My religious inclinations and practice have varied since then. But it is this same inimical Jesus I have always known who seems also to speak throughout this book.But while reading it, I thought Gabrielle's "conversations" seemed different than my own lesser, meeker ones, so I kept putting the book down in frustration. Perhaps being an actress she led a more emotional and wealthy life with much aplomb, so different from my own. Maybe this wasn't the book for me.But it kept calling me back, so eventually I had read it nearly to the end. Then, her final entries up to her death suddenly moved me so much I broke down and cried. And then realized I was no longer afraid of death! I believe I had to read the whole book to get this point. She (and He) did this for me!(Also, I happen to be a 10-year breast cancer survivor.)

Certainly the reader has to remind themselves that in He and I s/he is reading words given us through a mystic. It does at times seem a bit too sweet perhaps, or too much of a "Jesus and I" book that is exclusive of everyone else. But the interior revelations to Bossis are not exclusive and they are the words of divine love. Keeping this is mind then lets the reader, male or female, begin to experience Jesus speaking to all of humankind through this very down to earth woman who has an active life in the world of theatre and is as busy about the normal life as any of us have. Still, in spite of travel and performances, shopping for groceries and cooking meals, catching trains and running to the theater this lady receives mystical messages "on the run" so to speak. If the reader will open their heart, take time and let Jesus speak to him or her through this book I feel certain that they will come to know how deeply God loves them and wants a real, true, down-to-earth love affair with each person. Perhaps this book is one that the reader has to develop a taste for, but having developed it, He and I has the power to be a life changing book to read, meditate and read a little more. This book is well worth the effort to take a revelation given to someone else and make it intensely personal for the reader. You will be grateful that you have purchased this book and I am confident that having done so you will treasure this book similarly to treasuring the Bible. He and I is definitely NOT Revelation in the sense that the Bible is, however it is a work or mysticism that is a special experience of God speaking to us in words that take us from a perhaps at times shallow relationship with God to a very deeply personal love affair with God. In this sense it is revelation with a small "r". No one needs to accept this book as authentic, but if we can get by the speeh of a mystic and accept that the words are as much for us as for Gabrielle Bossis, He and I will be a spiritual experience that opens our minds to a truth that is also shown us throughout Sacred Scripture, namely that God loves each of us as if we were the only human that ever lived. I highly recommend this book to the person seeking to have a more profound spiritual life.

This book will change your life in soooo many ways. Every time I pick it up and read, it is as if Jesus is speaking and correcting me himself. It fits the situation every time. Amazing. You will develop your own love affair and love story with Him and He with you. You will not be the same person after you have read a few chapters of the book. You will come away with the sense of knowing who you are, who created you, and what is expected of you now that you know who He IS. Get the tissue out. It is a real eye opener. Life is hard and unfair. As I read the book, I could only handle a few pages at a time. Sometimes, it was one page and that was it. Everything about you will change.At times, He is pretty blunt which could be painful. At times, He is a loving God. You will know who He IS. You will learn who you are. And here I thought teaching first grade was the one of the most important things in my life....boy....was I wrong. I realized that we have known Him for eternity and we are on borrowed time here on Earth.Another great book that I recommend reading first is the dairy of St. Faustina. That book will change you life too. For me, that book was just the beginning .

By far the best Christian book I have read in decades. Bailey uses his lifetime of living and studying in the Middle East to illuminate many of the accounts in the Gospel of Luke, bringing in insights from manuscripts in languages other than the familiar Latin and Greek. His account of the Christmas story differs radically from the familiar account, but is equally consistent with the story as written. It alone is worth the price of the book.He uses an analysis of Middle Eastern story-telling to show that Jesus' parables, like the tide, come in, peak, and then recede following the same logical path by which they arrived, with the high point or conclusion coming in the middle, not at the end. Thus the high point of the tale of the Prodigal Son comes in the middle with the father running, dignity and robes askew, to meet the returning son--not at the end with the sour reaction of the stay-at-home brother. He illustrates this "tidal" structure with good diagrams, but it takes a little getting used to--the sole drawback to an otherwise remarkable volume.

This is the first Kenneth Bailey book I read and was hungry for more. It makes so much sense that to better understand the parables and life of Jesus one MUST be exposed to and have an understanding of the culture, lives, and thinking of the people who Jesus taught. After 60 years living in the Middle East, studying ancient texts, and becoming one within the community of Jesus' culture, Bailey is more than qualified to teach us the things we did not know we were missing from Jesus' stories and acts. Through the days I spent reading and studying this book I felt a renewal in my spiritual life and a closeness to God I hadn't realized was missing. Now instead of looking at the parables as moral stories about people who lived lives foreign from mine, I experience true faith and grace building in my life.

Jesus Through Middle Eastern Eyes: Cultural Studies in the Gospels by Kenneth E. Bailey is a book about the historical Christ that every serious disciple should read in order to better understand the communal significance of the Lord's teachings and, especially, his parables.Bailey, who spent over a half century in the Middle East studying and teaching Scripture and biblical languages, including Arabic, Syriac, Aramaic, Greek and Hebrew, strips away the layers of myth and time that have encased the narratives about Christ with centuries of misconception. He analyzes the parables using, what he calls a "prophetic rhetorical template" based upon Old Testament patterns. Enthusiasts of rhetoric and composition will find this application of chiasmatic structure particularly enlightening.The gospels are nothing if not sheer poetic genius and, as Bailey calls it at one point, filled with "hypertext links" to the Law and the Prophets. Jesus was, if you will, a walking Wikipedia of scriptural truth and he expounded his knowledge in a context that his listeners would have immediately recognized. For us, in the hyperactive world of Western 21st century modernity, much of his references and nuanced teachings are lost and separated from their original context.Drawing upon a vast amount of resources, both current and ancient, Bailey is brilliantly able to reconstruct for a reader who has the slightest imagination a three dimensional portrait of the Messiah that is most likely to influence one's understanding of the richness behind the parables and narrative scenes found in the gospels. The author relies frequently upon the Mishnah to explain what contemporaries of Christ would have readily comprehended regarding such things as receiving itinerant rabbis into their homes and the customs surrounding such happenings. Equally, he draws upon early Arabic gospel commentaries by such unknown scholars like Ibn al-Tayyib, a 11th century physician, monk and priest from Baghdad whose works are virtually unheard of in the West. Only someone with Bailey's amazing linguistic talents and life experiences could bring the life of Christ closer to our hearts through a multifaceted, scholarly analysis of text that illuminates from a cultural and linguistic perspective of that era. You could almost say, "you had to be there" to get it, but, because of Bailey, this book is the next best thing. Throw in some Holy Spirit guidance and, if you don't know these things about the cultural milieu surrounding Jesus' ministry like I didn't, you will benefit greatly from this book.Even though Jesus Through Middle Eastern Eyes is scholarly in its intent, Bailey's straightforward manner, along with numerous references and use of rhetorical templates, makes for a thoroughly enjoyable read if you leave out the author's inclination towards a Liberation Theology approach to exegesis. All in all, I'm sure that you will gain a much clearer picture of the true historical Jesus through this and the other books that Bailey has written.

I've learned so much while this book. I can't recommend it enough. I can't stress enough that this is not an "interpretation" of what the Bible says, but gives you the root meaning of words used, the background of the words used and selected, what the different meanings are, what the different cultural references actually mean..... etc. Very enlightening. I would recommend this book to anyone, even if you AREN'T a Christian. Very educational.Addendum. I have read this book another 3 times. I can't say enough good about this book. It has opened my eyes to many things.
