This book is rated as high as I can but I would give it 10 Stars...Its an excellent book with an amazing message...It’s one of my favorite books!!!!

Pastor-Teacher Jack Hayford's teachings are so accurate and inspired that they never disappoint the reader who is hungry for a living God. Brother Jack lives on a fresh anointing every day and it is to our benefit to be able to absorb it on a daily basis. It is easy enough to understand to the comparative beginner, but challenging enough to make the reader hungry after more manna tomorrow. I am grateful to the Spirit Filled Bible, so much so that I felt compelled to give my most recent edition to a young soldier going off to war in Afghanistan for a 3 year tour. both are great publications to study and to share.

Jack Hayford is a unique Bible teacher, pastor, and leader. Every word evokes a myriad of feelings, thoughts, and ideas. This is a wonderful work and I was fortunate to get the earlier version too. It is amazing how well this teaching has withstood the test of time. This will make an EXCELLENT small group study, individual development or devotional. You are worth the investment in yourself that the price of this book requires. More than that, you are worth the investment applying the teachings in this book will require of you.

You will never think of the book of Nehemiah the in same way again. Excellent read!

Well written, most insightful teaching. Would recommend for those serious about their relationship with the LORD.

I love Jack Hayford as a teacher. God has gifted this man to bring the scriptures to a real practical level for the believer. I know that my faith has grown deeper in the Lord and my trust to know that God loves me and that I'm a work in progress. The Lord ALWAYS has my back and I can freely trust God without borders. Easy read, yet powerful and life changing. Thank you Lord for Jack Hayford.

We've been readig this in our Bible study group. Makes Nehemiah much more understandable.

My Bible Study class enjoyed learning about God's restoration of their lives.

This is not your typical BDSM plot – oh, it’s there, but so is something else. I did enjoy the flashbacks interspersed with the first person present tense; it actually assisted me in feeling connected to the action. The characters are well defined, but gradually not, BANG and done, again helping the reader to immerse themselves into the story. The plot is present and obvious, but oh, those glorious sub-plots are what keep tugging you to the end.To sum up, I couldn’t put it down; cover to cover in one sitting and pleasingly entertained throughout.

This was the scariest book I have ever read! I'm one part my Greatgrandson, walked into my bedroom, (did not knock) and said Nana, I lost it! I yelled so loud the people down the block must have thought I was getting killed! This book could give you nightmares for life! Definitely a must read, but read it during the daytime. WOW, is all I'm going to say, I read it, so you can too! Many thanks, Honey Bee 🐝📚💙ðŸÅ½¶

What a mixture of emotions I got behind this story. First off, I love Gable and his best friend Shawn, they totally get each other and protect one another. When Leather Head, a serial killer, pops into the scene, I have to admit I kinda liked him. Totally sexy and confident, but turns twisted real quick and then I hated myself for even entertaining the thought of him being the way he was and is. He has an amazing cockiness. He's a psycho-nut job. I loved the flow with the story and how it all played out in the end though.Great job to the author, Matt Converse.

I really enjoyed this short from Matt Converse. The way it's structured creates a suspenseful, nail-biting countdown to the final question: will the killer add Gable to his collection? You'll want to find out. I look forward to reading more of Converse's work.

Awesome book. This book was a page turner that I just couldn't stop reading until the end.I had loved this book.I would highly recommend this book.

This one is long but I definitely enjoyed reading it. I am not usually disappointed when I read this author.

A M/M you will not forget. The thrill of the kill for Leather Head and the terror for his victims. The characters were well described as well as the Horror.

Wow! You warned us Matt and you delivered in spades. It was everything you told us it would be and more! I loved the mix of sex and murder believe it or not it makes a great communication.

There's not much to add outside of what the headline explanations. For pros, I can definitely give the book ample credit on the extent to which it explains a variety of concepts and applications of database systems. For cons, the way it goes about conveying that information is often wordy beyond what is remotely necessarily, and oftentimes there are half-page long asides that really don't matter much in terms of the overarching concept of that section. Another issue which is more prevalent in the earlier sections is that the same database schema is often referred to in examples when in the case of those who are fresh learners, multiple different examples would be beneficial, particularly to show the wide variety of applications to which databases could be applied. My professor largely teaches from the book, so if you find yourself in a similar boat it shouldn't be hard at all to get through the class, especially if you end up having an affinity for databases.

I needed this for my class, and it was fine, but not great. The level of detail was pretty good and there were some well-developed examples, but as some other reviewers noted, the nature of the components building off one another meant that it might be hard to find the referenced schema in an earlier (or later) section of the book while you were looking at one section. And it didn't necessary give you the page numbers so you could flip back and forth easily. If they just added the page numbers that would definitely bump my rating up.

Note: This review is about the quality of the physical book, not the textbook's content in side the book.I was disappointed that the plastic packaging for the book peeled off half of the cover. Additionally, the pages of the book are printed on extremely thin, cheap newspaper quality paper, as opposed to the standard glossy textbook paper. However given that its <$30 I guess you can't complain too much.... but if you have more money to blow or rich parents or scholarships paying for your textbooks, I definitely recommend a more expensive hardcover edition if one exists.

The title of this book suggests that it is merely the basics; don't be fooled. This book goes far beyond the fundamentals. It is over 1,000 pages of "stuff". It is used for graduate school classes in database design. I won't bore the reader with complex theories and jargon. In short, don't buy this book unless it is required for a school course. This book will only be of use if you are attending graduate school or in search of a PhD.If you are looking to understand how to build tables, define the relationship between tables, how to load data into a database, how to query the database of information, and simply desire a good foundation is the true "fundamentals" of database design then I recommend "The Practical SQL Handbook" by Judith Bowman and it's companion "Practical SQL the Sequel". These books will provide a better and more thorough understanding of the application of database design in terms you can understand and it leaves out the theoretical, discrete math, set theory "stuff".

Relational database theory, for a college level, Computer Science curriculum.I chose this book because it is a required text for an undergraduate database class. It presents relational database design from a theoretical basis. It provides an explanation, in depth, of the mathematical foundations of database theory. It is not a get started quickly, hands on guide to using SQL.This is an important text, and required reading for anyone looking for a deep understanding of relational database theory. It is not a hit the ground running, create a few queries quickly, how-to presentation. It is a serious work, and provides a serious understanding.

Overall, this is a wonderful book for learning how databases work. It doesn't cover the code for all modern database wonders, but hits most of them. Best of all, it provides psuedo code showing how to implement your own methods. However, I did find errors with some of the code, in particular the sorted-merge join algorithm will miss records if the right-hand-side table has multiple matching fields. It was easy to correct, but a mistake on such a fundamental algorithm is hard to overlook. Worst, Pearson doesn't provide an easy-to-find errata site, so I couldn't report the bug or even see if there were others. Addison-wesley never had that problem. Reading this book will make any DBMS make sense under the hood. Finally, I take point away for wordiness. This books is overcomplicated and wordy and doesn't make itself useful to beginning developers. This book tries to be a history book and reference all in one and it can be overwhelming, even to someone who's written his own DBMS before. Half of the chapters seem like unnecessary chatter, just to take up some more pages to rake up the price . . . and what a price!

This is a great fundamentals text. The section overviews guide you through the book in a smooth fashion without any surprises. The exercises reinforce knowledge without overwhelming and the language is not terse. This book does imply a basic familiarity with set theory, which frankly is an obvious prerequisite as this is not exactly a MySQL cookbook and focuses more on the theoretical concepts of database systems and less on their implementations / semantics. Don't let that deter you. Set theory is not difficult to learn and reading this book will grant you all the knowledge you need to correctly design a database for nearly all commercial applications. The figures do take away from the effectiveness of the book in some situations. Some figures from 3 chapters previous are referenced, which will have you flipping back thick chunks of paper. The figures are also of poor quality for a 2011 publication. Not a huge issue, but could be better.

This book is well researched and invaluable to understanding the hazardous chemicals that we are exposed to every day. Its strength is that the author, Ms. Baker, does not make conclusory statements without factual and scientific substantiation, like some books in this area unfortunately do. (Compare "The Body Toxic" with "Poisoned Profits: The Toxic Assault on Our Children.") Ms. Baker carefully and precisely sets forth the scientific facts underlying the book's theme yet does so in an engaging way by including real-life stories that illustrate the hazards behind the scientific facts. The way that she exposes the dangers of assuming that the FDA is protecting the public with regard to these chemicals is especially compelling. In summary, "The Body Toxic" is an exceptionally well-written investigative book that we can't afford to ignore.

This book is a must-read for anyone concerned about the effects of environmental factors on health. Very eye-opening!

A must read! Most people don't realize how many toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis from products we use and how long the companies who manufacture these products have known what effects they have on us. A very informative book that hopefully will scare you into asking more questions and being more aware of what you are buying.

After reading this book the harsh reality of exactly how toxic our world has become comes to light. From the very pots and pans we eat off of to the very food we put in our mouths we all are suffering from chemicals and a huge toxic burden!

This should be required reading for any young couple planning to have children! Awesome collection of facts, studies and information about the toxins surrounding us and which ones to stay clear of.

I was aware of some of the hidden dangers in chemicals, cleaners, make-up etc. The book gave more examples of these toxic substances. We really are not aware what we are doing to our bodies on a day to day basis. And what's even more interesting is how these companies can get away with poisoning us without any consequences!

I am sure there are more toxins to know about now but I forgot to checkwhat year this book had been written. Good info though.

Ok.

Scribbling the Cat is a strange and unsettling book. Like Fuller's two other Rhodesian memoirs, Don't Lets Go to the Dogs Tonight and Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness, it's hauntingly evocative and elegantly written. Once more, I was effortlessly transported to Southern Africa, "a land of almost breath-taking beauty or of savage poverty; a land of screaming ghosts or of sun-flung possibilities; a land of inviting warmth or of desperate drought" (143). But unlike the other two Rhodesian memoirs, Scribbling the Cat is elusive and dark and ultimately it loses its momentum. Fuller's charming sense of humor and endearing optimism are largely absent here, replaced, instead, by meandering reflections and a sense of foreboding that is never truly resolved. When reading fiction, I normally try very hard to separate my feelings about the author from my attitudes about the book. With memoir, however, that's a little bit harder to do, because the author is selling not just her story, but also herself, to some extent - her values, impressions and presuppositions. And while I had started to develop a sort of benign "girl crush" on Fuller after reading her two other memoirs, this one left me questioning her character a little bit, and the book as a whole.Instead of focusing on her childhood and family life growing up in Rhodesia, this memoir centers on Fuller's friendship and travels with a man whom she calls "K," an ex-soldier who fought on the losing side of the Rhodesian war. She meets "K" while visiting her parents' fish and banana farm in Zambia, and despite her father's warnings to steer clear of him, Fuller, who seems to be suffering from a kind of spiritual malaise, quickly develops a kindred connection with the man as they travel together alone, often in very intimate settings, through Zimbabwe and Mozambique. "K" is very much reminiscent of Stanley Kowalski , a volatile, choleric soul trapped in a shell of hyper masculinity. It's clear throughout the memoir that Fuller finds herself both repulsed by and strangely attracted to "K", which is problematic, since she is married with two children. Throughout the book, Fuller, who is so transparent in her other memoirs, remains silent on the appropriateness of this arrangement.Fuller probably wouldn't have been able to write this book had "K" not developed romantic feelings for her shortly after their first meeting. And more than a few readers, myself probably included, seem to think that Fuller exploits "K's" feelings order to get the goods---that is, the material she needs to write a compelling story. She's also on a kind of spiritual journey herself, and she thinks that if she can just figure out "K", then she might be able to make sense of her family's own involvement in the war. She expresses her desire to "label ["K"] and write him into coherence," and, by extension, herself. But "K" is a complex person, a professing "born again" Christian who is tormented by the ghosts of his past and driven by an unpredictable brew of sincere faith, erratic superstition, debilitating guilt and blind rage. By the end of both her literal and metaphorical journeys, we know very little about "K," and very little about Fuller and only a little bit more about Africa. Her goal - "to patch together enough words to make sense of [their] lives" (239) - is never realized, and only two major insights are communicated: that war indiscriminately breaks people's bodies and souls and that Fuller indiscriminately breaks men's hearts. The first insight I already suspected before reading this book and the second one I was sad to discover.

I read Ms. Fuller's first book strictly by accident. I thought Don't Lets Go to the Dogs Tonight would have been a political view of the struggle in Rhodesia between the white settlers and the indigenous people. It wasn't, however, and while at first I was disappointed as I kept reading I found a brilliantly told tale of a family that lived in Rhodesia that is very similar to many families I know all over America.Scribbling the Cat is another Fuller memoir set in Africa, and this one is even more personal. The first book tells the story of the Fuller family, and as the mother is the focus of the family the story is truly a mother daughter tale. This book is a story about who Alexandra Fuller became, not how she grew up, and I love it.Just as in the first book, this is a story that is distinctly rooted in Africa, but if you change some of the names and some of the locations, it truly has played out in America as well. Fuller meets a former Rhodesian soldier, warrior more like it, and is awestruck by his lifestyle. He is now a gentleman farmer living in an area that doesn't have many white gentleman farmers, especially ones who in the past were killing their African gentleman farmer counterparts.Fuller does a great job of bringing the reader along on the journey. Her writing style reminds me in a way of Hemingway. Hemingway had a way of making me feel the heat in Key Largo, feeling the strength of the fish in Old Man. Fuller really made me feel the mud on the trail to the farm, the smell of the fruit bearing trees she passes, the heat from the African sun, and most important I felt the affection that the old soldier began to feel for Ms. Fuller, and the confusion Ms. Fuller felt for him.All in all a great book by a great writer. Alexandra Fuller is one of the truly great writers alive today and while she lives in America her heart still resides in the Africa of her childhood. She seems keenly aware of the problems the white Rhodesians inflicted upon their native residents. I definitely feel her sense of, I hate to say it because it is far more complex, but guilt for what happened to the Africans subject to white Rhodesian rule. Her escort, the former Rhodesian soldier, was part of the problem, a very bloody part of the problem, and she truly struggles to get past the things he did. She doesn't make him a villain, but she doesn't deify him either. I can also feel that she would take issue with my use of African in that last paragraph. When I say Rhodesian I am thinking of them as white European settlers. In Ms. Fuller's case, however, she is just as African as any black African subject to Rhodesian rule. Reading between the lines Ms. Fuller is in many ways a victim of the same colonialism many black Africans suffered from. She was white, but hardly wealthy.Throughout this journey I truly had a sense that I am seeing Africa through the eyes of an African, something that Ms. Fuller can't shake, because it is who she is. One great thing I got from this book was fair notice that my simple categorization of the problem, this is white, this is black, this is African, this is European, the European whites were oppressive, the Africans are the victims, speaks to my ignorance of the reality many people are living in these former colonial areas that can't be categorized. Good people had to do bad things to become free, good people did bad things to serve a belief they later realized was wrong.

A brutal story beautifully written. If it were not for the superb use of words, this would have been an unpalatable read. There were times when I felt the author was indulging in voyeurism and exploding the fragility of the soldier. But this is a story that needs to be told. Wars produce no winners and here we read of the tragedy of those who lose.K may appear as a bizarre character, but, having experienced the Mozambique civil war first hand as a hostage of Renamo, K was chillingly real. The scary fact is there are thousands of damaged humans - the debris from past and current civil wars - trying to make sense of their lives. In a strange cathartic way, reading this story helped.

Alexandra Fuller is one of those authors who, for me, can't write enough. After reading every book of hers, I feel like I've lived through intense emotional struggles and awakenings with doses of laughter on the side. She is a gifted writer who is so in tune with her interactions with others, and then she shares the experiences with incredible insight and graceful eloquence. This book is a little different from her childhood/adolescent/family books, however it has the same vivid descriptions of Africa and the same, sometimes shocking, truth about human nature. I really enjoyed it.

I've read many of the stories that originated in the Rhodesian Bush War including the "The Selous Scouts" writtten by their original CO Col Ron Daly- Lewis, which was earth Shattering, as far as I was concerned but this tale by Alexandra Fuller was written on such a human level that it gave a totally different angle to a similar war story but with so much humour and empathy. Totally worth reading if historically true stories are your forte

The Crocodile Who Didn't like Water, by Gemma Merino

From School Library Journal

K-Gr 2—A little crocodile just can't get too enthused about the water, unlike his siblings, who splash and play in it with abandon. The little guy even uses his tooth fairy money to buy a swim ring. Alas, it is not a helpful solution. Just when he is at his lowest, he feels a sneeze coming on. Lo and behold, out shoots a sizable flame, hilariously setting a diving board on fire. He's actually a dragon! On the following pages, he uses his newly discovered talents to treat his brothers and sisters to a ride in a hot-air balloon and eventually on his winged back. Merino hits it out of the park with delightful artwork that will immediately endear the little dragon to readers and have them giggling cover to cover. She writes with a light, clear hand, letting the illustrations deliver the humor. Readers should look closely for neat little details, adding even more charm to this sweet, funny book about celebrating differences.—Alyson Low, Fayetteville Public Library, AR

That is the question my two- year old asked me every night. She was totally engaged in the book! My 4 - year old was engrossed in the simple but beautiful and expressive artwork and managed to calm herself to listen to the entire story (an amazing feat as parents with 4 year olds will tell you).My only complaint is that the book is actually a bit too short. It was just too much fun....Also let's face it he was totally faking it WE KNOW YOU CAN SWIM MR....er...er...crorodile!

A clever retelling of the Ugly Duckling story. Our protagonist does not run away and hide until he's beautiful and accepted like the aforementioned UD. But rather, he discovered what makes him unique and special while playing with his brothers and sisters. And, they accept him and have fun with him once that transformation occurs. A positive message from a clever book.

This picture book is absolutely adorable. The story is cute, funny, and beautifully illustrated. My storytime kids loved the book and so did the adults. I love it!

It's basically the ugly duckling, but a more entertaining take on the tale. And it's adorable.

Love this book! A great book full of hilarious pictures, great writing, and allows you to make a bunch of wild noises. I bought this for my two year old. I think I'm putting it on my bookshelf instead!

It is just sample and so meaningful!Children should read it first by themselves and parent can explain the message behind this wonderful story the child may not quit get it at first.

I haven't read this one just yet. I purchased through my coworkers advice that it's a fabulous book with many options in extending a lesson, integrating some additional compprehension skills!!!!

I bought this book for my twenty year old, and she loves it. It is the classic ugly duckling story with a twist.
